National publication opines on Brian Kelly recruitment

LSU football ended the 2022 recruiting cycle with the recruiting class ranked No. 12 in the nation.

Not bad for Brian Kelly, a new head coach who only had a few weeks to prepare for the first signing day in December.

Landing in the No. 12 class is impressive, but it’s nowhere near where LSU wants to be under Kelly.

Thankfully, it seems the national media perception is that Kelly will do just fine recruiting Baton Rouge.

In other words, it’s just getting started.

New LSU football head coach Brian Kelly silenced doubters

When Kelly left Notre Dame for LSU, one of the biggest concerns about him was how he would recruit into the SEC.

Kelly not only did well, he exceeded expectations. It wasn’t a perfect recruiting cycle for Kelly — the Tigers missed a few key recruits in the state — but it ended on a high note when LSU landed five-star linebacker Harold Perkins (a former Texas A&M clerk ).

Here are some comments on Kelly’s time at LSU so far from 247Sports’ Cooper Petagna:

Brian Kelly’s short tenure in Baton Rouge has been nothing short of entertaining since arriving on campus in the Louisiana state capital. Highlighted by fake accents and viral dance moves, Kelly has become something of a lightning rod for national media and college football pundits. Take it all away and zoom in on what matters, there’s a lot to love about what Kelly and her team have accomplished in Baton Rouge in such a short time.

LSU’s new head coach has looked into recruiting. He kisses her. The feeling at Notre Dame was that Kelly was not at all drawn to recruiting. It’s like LSU energized Kelly.

This is a dangerous thing for the rest of the SEC. If a half-hearted Kelly was able to take Notre Dame to the college football playoffs, imagine what he’ll be able to do at LSU.

(Championships, I’m talking about several championships).

I have a feeling it’s going to be a really fun race with Kelly at the helm. There is no doubt that he is an elite college football head coach and scout.
