The DVA Monthly Tests Conducted Statistics – June 2022 report, containing statistics up to June 2022, is now available.

The publication is produced by the DVA Statistics Branch of the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) and contains summary volumes on vehicles, drivers and theory tests conducted by the DfI’s Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA). The publication is available on the DfI website at:

Practical driving tests

Following the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, test drives were able to resume from April 23, 2021. Due to the nature of the special tests, off-road motorcycle tests and some LGV tests were able to resume. continue before this period. In June 2022, the DVA received 6,157 driving test applications.

The DVA conducted 5,900 test drives in June 2022, 34% more than the five-year average for June (4,411).

Passenger cars accounted for 81% (4,798) of all test drives conducted in June 2022.

Vehicle tests

Following the initial outbreak of COVID-19, the DVA suspended all vehicle testing from March 24, 2020 and resumed phased testing in June (IVA), July (priority groups including taxis and buses) and September (four-year-old passenger cars and motorcycles, three-year-old light goods and all heavy goods). The DVA was able to continue testing throughout the winter 2020 lockdown, but with reduced capacity due to social distancing measures. Temporary Exemption Certificates (TEC) were issued to eligible vehicles that the DVA was unable to test.

The DVA received 101,387 applications for a full vehicle test drive in June 2022.

In June 2022, the DVA carried out 79,819 complete vehicle tests, 35% (20,572) above the five-year average for June (59,247).

Private cars accounted for 82% (65,186) of all full tests conducted in June 2022.

Driver Theory Test

Following the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, theory testing was able to resume from April 23, 2021. The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) took over the contract for theory testing from Pearson on September 4, 2021. Applications for theory tests and theory tests conducted for June 2022 were not validated in time for publication. These will be included in our published series as soon as possible. The theoretical tests carried out figures are provisional.
