Publication of the ‘Monthly statistics of DVA tests carried out – September 2022’

The DVA Monthly Tests Conducted Statistics – September 2022 report, containing statistics up to September 2022, is now available.

The publication is produced by the DVA Statistics Branch of the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) and contains summary volumes on vehicle, driver and theory testing carried out by the DfI’s Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA).

Practical driving tests

Following the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, driving tests were able to resume from April 23, 2021. Due to the nature of the special tests, off-road motorcycle tests and some LGV tests had been able to resume. continue before this period. In September 2022, the DVA received 6,383 applications for a driving test.

The DVA conducted 6,034 test drives in September 2022, 27% more than the five-year average for September (4,759).

Passenger cars accounted for 82% (4,932) of all test drives conducted in September 2022.

Vehicle tests

Following the initial outbreak of COVID-19, the DVA suspended all vehicle testing from March 24, 2020 and resumed staged testing in June (IVA), July (priority groups including taxis and buses) and September (four-year-old passenger cars and motorcycles, three-year-old light goods and all heavy goods). The DVA was able to continue testing throughout the winter 2020 lockdown, but with reduced capacity due to social distancing measures. Temporary Exemption Certificates (TEC) were issued to eligible vehicles that the DVA was unable to test.

The DVA received 79,275 applications for a full vehicle test drive in September 2022.

In September 2022, the DVA conducted 84,475 full vehicle tests, 35% (22,002) above the five-year average for September (62,473).

Private cars accounted for 83% (69,962) of all comprehensive tests conducted in September 2022.

Driver Theory Test

Following the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, theory testing was able to resume from April 23, 2021. The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) took over the contract for theory testing from Pearson on September 4, 2021. The figures of the theoretical tests carried out are provisional.

The DVA received 9,008 applications for a theory test in September 2022.

The DVA conducted 7,569 theory tests in September 2022, 40% more than the five-year average for September (5,381).

Passenger cars accounted for 85% (6,410) of all theory tests conducted in September 2022.
