Fine Gael local councilor John Naughten has welcomed the release of plans for a roundabout and pedestrian crossing at Cloonakilla National School.
Plans are now on display for the proposed road safety scheme next to Cloonakilla National, Bealnamulla, which includes a pedestrian crossing on the R362 and a new roundabout at the Taughmaconnell junction.
“As Athlone Municipal District Chairman, I would like to welcome the release of this plan. Although there have been long delays in moving this matter forward, it is an important step forward. .
“There are very significant safety concerns at this location in Cloonakilla NS and the works which are proposed have been long sought after and will improve the situation for pedestrians and road users through the provision of a roundabout, a pedestrian crossing and associated works as well as a reduction in the speed limit.
“I would like to acknowledge the work of the staff at Roscommon County Council and the support of my colleagues on Council, especially Cllr. John Keogh,” Cllr Naughten said.
Plans can be viewed during public opening hours for a period of four weeks at Roscommon County Council Offices, Áras an Chontae, Roscommon Town F42 VR98 and Athlone Borough Office, Civic Center , Monksland, Athlone, County Roscommon N37 W5P9.
