The Times of San Diego enters its 9th year of publication with 500,000 monthly readers

The Times of San Diego begins its ninth year of publication Monday with an average monthly readership of nearly 500,000 readers.

The independent local news website launched on March 14, 2014 and recorded 59,539 unique users – the standard measure of online readership – the following April, its first full month.

By comparison, over the past 12 months, from March 2021 to February 2022, The Times of San Diego averaged just under 500,000 unique users per month, an increase of 750%.

San Diego’s times have changed dramatically in eight years. The editorial team grew, the site completed a major overhaul, and coverage expanded with regional and national news.

But the website’s goal remains the same: timely, accurate, and comprehensive coverage of news that impacts San Diego County residents.

The team of seven editors and photographers along with numerous contributing writers now publish an average of 25 articles per day covering all aspects of this community. Major topics include politics, crime, business, sports, education, arts, military, science, health, life and opinion.

Also unchanged after eight years, a business model designed to ensure high quality news coverage for all. The site is completely free, supported by local and national advertising and contributions from our readers.

Also free is a daily email newsletter sent at 8 a.m. with the main news of the last 24 hours.
