US Publication Names Kingston General One of Canada’s Top Hospitals – Kingston

Kingston General Hospital found its name on a list of the best hospitals in the country.

The American publication Newsweek recently revealed its world ranking of the best hospitals, and in Canada, Kingston ranked 37th.

Only 66 of more than 1,200 hospitals in Canada have received a ranking. Kingston’s score was 66.9%.

“This ranking shows that despite being a smaller city, Kingston truly punches above its weight in Canada and on the world stage,” said KHSC President and CEO Dr. David Pichora.

“In fact, many of the hospitals above us on the list are located in much larger communities like Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton. This ranking is a testament not only to our key academic partnership with Queen’s University, but also to the skill and dedication of staff and physicians across the organization.

Five Toronto hospitals were in the top 10.

In a press release, the Kingston Health Sciences Center highlighted the number of additions and expansions that have taken place over the past two years, which have positively impacted their ranking on this list and other others.

• Opening of a new state-of-the-art hybrid operating room.
• Became one of the few hospitals to offer new surgical procedures for patients with faulty heart valves.
• Became the first to offer portable MRI services to people living in remote northern communities.
• Offers new treatments for patients with brain aneurysms.
• Expanded diagnostic assessment programs for people with lung cancer.
• Selected to be one of four infectious disease sequencing laboratories in Ontario to lead COVID-19 genomic surveillance initiatives for new emerging variants of concern.
